Grave Marking Dedication at Contentment Plantation Cemetery – November 22, 2024

On Friday, November 22, 2024, a heartfelt Grave Marker Dedication took place at the historic Contentment Plantation Cemetery in Townsend, GA. The ceremony paid tribute to four Revolutionary War heroes—Captain James Nephew, Lt. Col. John Cooper, James Gignilliat S., Esq., and Private John Calder—whose service and sacrifices were instrumental in shaping our nation’s fight for independence.

The event began with a stirring Presentation of Colors by the SAR Color Guard, led by the National Color Guard Commander. Their precision and dedication served as a powerful reminder of the discipline and honor upheld by those who continue to carry forward the values of our Patriot ancestors.

The grave marking ceremony led by the Chairman of the Revolutionary War Patriot and Compatriot Graves Committee. These newly dedicated markers stand as lasting memorials to the courage and commitment of these Patriot Soldiers, ensuring their stories endure for generations to come.

The event concluded with a Musket and Cannon Salute, led by the SAR Color Guard. The thunderous and synchronized musket volleys served as a powerful symbol of reverence and gratitude, honoring the Patriots’ enduring legacy.
