The Captain John Collins Chapter proudly participated in the 2025 Georgia Society, Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) Annual Conference, held at the Hilton Northeast Atlanta at Peachtree Corners. This important event brought together compatriots from across the state to celebrate achievements, engage in meaningful discussions, and further the mission of the SAR.
Honoring Leadership with the SAR Patriot Medal
A special congratulations to Captain John Collins Chapter Past President and current State Chairman of the Eagle Scout Committee, Bill Coffeen, for receiving the prestigious SAR Patriot Medal at the conference.
The Patriot Medal is the highest award presented by a state society, recognizing long-term, outstanding service at the state and chapter levels. Bill’s dedication, leadership, and commitment to the Georgia Society SAR, particularly through his work with youth programs and the Eagle Scout Committee, have left a lasting impact.
We are incredibly grateful for Bill’s contributions and leadership. Thank you, Bill, for your unwavering service and dedication to honoring our patriot ancestors. This recognition is well deserved!
Recognizing Service to Veterans
One of the highlights of the conference was the presentation of the State Veterans Award streamer to several Georgia Society SAR chapters. This recognition was presented by Captain John Collins Past President and current State Chairman of the Veterans Committee, Gary Hoyt. He was joined by Georgia Society SAR President Ed Rigel Jr. and National SAR President General Darryl Addington in honoring these chapters for their dedication to supporting our nation’s veterans.
Supporting and recognizing veterans remains a core pillar of the SAR’s mission, and we are proud of Compatriot Hoyt’s leadership in ensuring that our chapters continue to serve those who have sacrificed for our country. Congratulations, Gary, for your leadership and commitment to this important cause!
New Leadership for 2025
The 2025 Georgia Society SAR Officer Installation marked an important milestone for our state leadership. We are proud to announce that two of our Captain John Collins Chapter compatriots have been elected to key positions within the Georgia Society:
- Bill Edelen – Northwest Regional Vice President
- Chris Thompson – State Secretary & State Historian
Their dedication and leadership are truly an inspiration. We are excited to see the contributions they will make in these roles and have full confidence in their ability to further the SAR’s mission across the state.
Distinguished Chapter Award
Our chapter was honored to receive the 2024 Distinguished Chapter Award at the annual conference! This recognition reflects the dedication, service, and hard work of our compatriots in preserving history, promoting patriotism, and engaging with our community.
Chapter President Bill Edelen proudly accepted the award streamer on behalf of all our members. This achievement would not have been possible without the commitment and enthusiasm of every compatriot who works tirelessly to uphold the values of the SAR.
Supporting Education Through the John Dooley Education Outreach Award
Education is a cornerstone of the SAR’s mission, and we were proud to support a fellow compatriot dedicated to historical education. Chris and Sheri Thompson presented a $250 check to Carter Wood of the Lyman Hall Chapter as part of the John Dooley Education Outreach Award.
Carter’s presentations help further the Georgia Society SAR’s efforts in promoting a deeper understanding of American history. His work ensures that future generations continue to learn about the sacrifices made by our patriot ancestors. Thank you, Carter, for your commitment to educating others about our nation’s past!
The 2025 Georgia Society SAR Annual Conference was a remarkable event, celebrating leadership, education, service, and dedication to the principles of our Founding Fathers. The Captain John Collins Chapter is honored to be part of this important work, and we look forward to continuing our mission of patriotism, education, and historic preservation in the year ahead.
